Blaze Pods: Flash Reflex Training

Image
The Israeli company Blaze Pods have invented a new kind of reaction training system, utilizing LED lights. Composed of light up sensors connected to an iphone app, these Blaze Pods provide an athlete with a combination of physical and cognitive stimulation so that they can improve their performance. There are preset patterns for the lights with eight different colors that the user can change based on what exercise they want to do. The app is the most efficient way to control the pods, allowing the user to have the best possible experience. You can use the Blaze Pods for a number of different exercises and sports. For instance, you can attach them using to a punching bag using the built in suction cups to add more rhythm to your punches, or you can place them on the ground and while doing plank pushups, smack the pod when the light turns on. The main idea behind Blaze Pods is to help athletes to increase their brain processing to the point where it is as fast as a natural reflex. T...

Transcranial direct current Stimulation (tDCS) - A breakthrough in sports

Image
Already known for its potential to treat depression and traumatic brain injuries, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) might present a breakthrough in athletic performance training as well. The basic principle of tDCS is sending a mild electrical current through the brain for therapeutic benefit. This isn't new though, as the ancient Romans put electric shocks from fish to relieve headaches.           Halo Neuroscience and professional athletes are using tDCS to improve their performance, muscular endurance, and athletic abilities. Looking at Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation, a form of neurostimulation, tDCS uses electric currents to stimulate particular parts of the brain. Traditionally, tDCS is administered in a laboratory-like setting, with a patient wearing what looks like a wired shower cap. But the tDCS device designed by Hallo Neuroscience fashionably resembles a pair of high-quality headphones...

VAR: One of the Largest Technological Changes in Football History

Image
Goal scoring in football has forever changed. Growing up I remember seeing fans on TV roar as soon as a goal was scored, but VAR has changed that entirely. Now, everyone holds their breath as they wait for the referee to signal a goal.       Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is essentially a fifth referee for instant replay in certain situations. VAR is used for “goals and offenses leading up to a goal, penalty decisions and offenses leading to penalty decisions, direct red card instances, and mistaken identity. (FIFA, 2022)” This means that VAR is only used in situations that have significant impact on the game. Despite the limited use of VAR, due to its use at pivotal moments many fans feel that VAR is used too often. Many fans argue it has ruined the excitement of goals, as now fans must wait for the referee to signal a goal. Additionally, what differentiates football from a lot of other sports is the limited breaks. VAR has changed this by causing pauses mid m...
