Blaze Pods: Flash Reflex Training

The Israeli company Blaze Pods have invented a new kind of reaction training system, utilizing LED lights. Composed of light up sensors connected to an iphone app, these Blaze Pods provide an athlete with a combination of physical and cognitive stimulation so that they can improve their performance. There are preset patterns for the lights with eight different colors that the user can change based on what exercise they want to do. The app is the most efficient way to control the pods, allowing the user to have the best possible experience. You can use the Blaze Pods for a number of different exercises and sports. For instance, you can attach them using to a punching bag using the built in suction cups to add more rhythm to your punches, or you can place them on the ground and while doing plank pushups, smack the pod when the light turns on. The main idea behind Blaze Pods is to help athletes to increase their brain processing to the point where it is as fast as a natural reflex. There is no limit to how you can improve your reflexes and reaction time with Blaze Pods.

After simply entering some personal data into the app such as weight, height, etc. it will redirect you to a number of different sports and exercises that you can use with the device. These include but are not limited to basketball, football, martial arts and tennis. The user is able to control how long the pods will stay on and how the pods will interact with the other pods. They are able to do this with low-energy bluetooth. This technology has become more and more popular due to high profile influencers on social media taking interest.

  2. I think a negative of blaze pods might be the reliance on using a phone and technology in general. I think you can receive more benefits from exercise when you are unplugged. Being unplugged gives you the freedom to choose your own pace, intensity, and exercise routine without being confined to the parameters of an app. Relying too heavily on exercise apps can create a dependency on technology for motivation and guidance.
Exercise apps, while helpful for tracking and providing guidance, can also be distracting. Notifications, messages, or the temptation to check Instagram or TikTok can interrupt your workout and affect its quality.
Blaze Pods are a cool concept although, and could be used in moderation to create a balanced routine.

    1. I agree that an emphasis on using your phone for working out has its negatives, however, would you not agree that since technology is continuing to get better and phone apps are being utilized in so many more ways that it might be necessary for people to use phones for working out? In order to grab people's attention and make it easy for them to use? Might they not be more motivated to work out if they see that notification on their phone? What do you think might be an alternative from the app or your phone?

  3. I think a positive aspect of Blaze Pods is that they're versatile, and can be really beneficial for reflex training. Improving an athlete's reaction time and cognitive processing can be beneficial for a range of sports, such as a goalie in soccer to a professional race car driver. However, there is other technology that exists such as VR or neurofeedback devices that exist that I think are also just as beneficial in helping an athlete become more comfortable in their own surroundings and thus, can improve their reaction time and cognitive processing. I think a negative of Blaze Pods is that it's not very accessible to a lot of the population, so many athletes that could benefit from using them likely cannot access them. I also think that, just like any technological device, its bound to malfunction or cause the athlete to become dependent on the technology, and therefore they don't become more in tune with their own cognizance. However, Blaze Pods could be very crucial in training such as interval training, reaction drills, memory training, or agility sessions.

Is there a sport you think can be more benefitted by Blaze Pods today?

    1. This is a very interesting comment! I did not think about the accessibility towards athletes. I think that with the promotion of the product, perhaps then becoming more affordable, they will become more popular and many athletes will go out of their way to get them. As to your next point, there is a possibility of malfunction, however that could be said about any form of technology, though I do agree that one negative aspect of Blaze Pods is that people could become to reliant on them. As to your question, I think that most sports could benefit from the use of Blaze Pods, however I think that boxing or MMA could utilize it the most. Perhaps they could punch them when they glow. I think that is the sport that can use these pods in a way that most closely resembles how they will play the sport.

  5. Addressing the first question, Blaze Pods offers innovative ways to improve reflexes and cognitive abilities, and virtual reality (VR) training systems could be considered an alternative or complementary technology. VR can simulate real-world environments and scenarios, providing immersive and varied training experiences targeting specific reflexes and cognitive skills required in different sports or activities. -Logan Gornbein
